The Start of Laurel Manor

In 1958, John Del Signore left his hometown in Fonte d’Amore, Italy, to join other Del Signore men working in Venezuela’s construction industry. There, the men worked hard but ate well as they each took turns cooking old family favorites from home. In 1962 John decided to leave to embark on a future in the United States, joined by his wife of 4 years, Lina, who had been living in their hometown while John worked in Venezuela.

In 1964, John and Lina opened DiGiovanni’s Pizzeria in Livonia, and later the Italian Hut. This was eventually replaced by Fonte d’Amore restaurant, a long-standing Del Signore landmark featuring home-cooked Italian food that brought in rave reviews by patrons from all over the metropolitan Detroit area for more than 30 years.

Encouraged by their loyal restaurant clientele, in 1988, the Del Signores opened Laurel Manor Banquet & Conference Center. This popular wedding & event location continues to be the measure of excellence by which other metro Detroit event venues strive to compete. From the beginning, serving customers has been a family affair with John and Lina’s children and grandchildren all having taken part in working at the family business.
They believe that the main reason for Laurel Manor’s continued success is their emphasis on quality, homemade cuisine and the pride they take in every event. Bringing people together for events is the heart of the family’s success.

Second Generation Owner

In 2024, John Del Signore’s son, Luciano Del Signore, stepped in as the 2nd Generation Owner, and is breathing new life into the venue with a ballroom remodel completed in January 2024 and a new elevated menu. Chef Luciano is well known in the culinary world for his many successful endeavors, including the refined, casual dining restaurant, Casa Pernoi, as well as Bigalora Wood Fired Cucina, Baia Estates, and Arbor Brewing Company. However, he is most recognized for his beloved upscale restaurant, Bacco Ristorante, which closed in early 2024 after 22 years of serving excellence to its many patrons.

The closure of these doors has only opened Chef Luciano up to other new and exciting projects. With his impressive culinary background, and Laurel Manor’s reputation for hosting exceptional events, this elite venue has a recipe for success.
